Day 1

A little over a year ago, I got the note that I was accepted to the teaching Master at Leiden University, starting September '14. Directly I contacted the students' office, could I still join in the WTP (World Teacher Programme)? I had read about this online and with my Global Health background, this seemed to be a perfect fit: extra challenge combined with an internationally oriented programme!
The intakes were about to start halfway in April, but if I were to send my letter of recommendation the following day, she would put me on the list. So I sent my letter, I did the intake, I got accepted (yay!) and I knew that part of this programme would be an international internship of a month, somewhere.

It must have been early October when they provided us with more information concerning this internship. Participants could choose between a set of schools in different countries (inside & outside of Europe) or we could arrange our own internship. Any way, I put down Canada as a first choice and waited. Together with the information of the schools came the information about the goal of this internship. We would be doing our Masters' research abroad as well as observe & teach several lessons. It was best to direct your research topic to the school you would be visiting.
As we did not hear from the school in Canada, I started searching for a school that would link up well to my research topic. It did not take long for me to find Malmö Borgarskola, a gymnasium with an IB programme. Next thing I know, I found myself e-mailing this school, asking for a biology teaching internship.

Their response was amazing: quick, very enthousiastic and pro-active. They found my e-mail very interesting and really wanted to have me. I found a wonderful room via airbnb, booked a flight and now here I am, waiting for my internship to start!

Tomorrow I'll join in a day at Lund University in an all Swedish "Inspirationsdag för lärare", I will then meet my supervisors. For now, let there be sleep. zzzzzzzzz
